Blocking jig for framers and carpenters

Set it. Cut it. Repeat.

The CutBoss is a length stop and saw fence in one. Lock in your block length, hook the board, and run your circular saw along the fence. Every block in the stack comes out the same length and square, with no tape, pencil line or speed square.

Cut range 6″ – 36″
How it works

Three moves per block

STEP 1

Set

Slide the stop along the inch scale to your block length, anywhere from 6″ to 36″, and lock it with the lever. You measure once for the whole run.

STEP 2

Cut

Hook the stop on the end of the board, hold the grip, and run your circular saw along the steel fence. The fence keeps the cut square.

STEP 3

Repeat

Slide the CutBoss down to the fresh end and cut again. Block 40 matches block 1, so every block drops in between the joists.

10 blocks in under 90 seconds

One framer, one board, one setting. Lock the length, cut, slide, cut again, and the stack is done before a tape would be back in its holster.

The 30-minute blocking challenge

CutBoss vs. tape and pencil

Two framers, one job site, 30 minutes on the clock. One cuts joist blocking with the CutBoss. The other uses a tape, pencil and speed square. Count the stacks at the end.

On the job

Framers putting it to work

Production framing and a basement remodel. Here is the CutBoss on real jobs.

Repetitive blocks on a framing crew
Framing a basement
Why crews buy it

Blocking is slow because of the layout, not the cut

Every block normally means pulling a tape, marking a line, squaring it and checking the cut. Multiply that by a floor system and the layout eats the afternoon. The CutBoss removes the layout steps and keeps the cut.

Without the CutBoss
  1. Pull the tape
  2. Mark the length
  3. Square the line
  4. Cut
  5. Check the fit, recut the long ones
With the CutBoss
  1. Set the length once
  2. Cut
  3. Repeat

Questions

FAQ

What does the CutBoss do?

It is a cutting jig for repeat block cuts with a circular saw. Lock the stop at your block length, hook it on the end of the board, and run your saw along the CutBoss fence. Every block comes out the same length and square, without a tape or pencil line.

What saw do I use with it?

The circular saw you already own. The saw shoe rides along the steel fence, which guides a square cut.

What lengths can it cut?

Any block length from 6 inches to 36 inches.

What lumber does it work with?

It is built for dimensional framing lumber, from 2x4 up through 2x12, including floor joist blocking, wall blocking and fire blocking. Crews also use it to cut I-joist blocking.

Who is it for?

Framing crews and carpenters who cut a lot of blocking, and DIYers framing a garage, deck or addition who want square, matching blocks without the layout work.

How fast does it ship, and what does shipping cost?

Shipping is free on every CutBoss order. Orders ship within 5 to 6 business days.

Can I get my company logo on it?

Yes. Every CutBoss comes with a free leather strap branded with your logo. After checkout you can upload your logo file, or reply to your order email with it.

Where is it made?

The CutBoss is designed and made in the USA.

Is the design patented? Can my company license it?

The CutBoss is patent pending under U.S. utility patent application No. 19/459,543. We are open to licensing the design or selling the patent rights to a tool manufacturer. See the licensing page for details.

For tool manufacturers

The CutBoss patent rights are available

We are looking for a manufacturer to take the CutBoss to market at scale. The patent-pending design is available to license or to purchase outright.
